The bottom of the first post in your home page is a good position for advertisements. The readers will take note of what is it at the bottom of the first post. If there is a size of 468X60 ads, it will be blended in your blog perfectly.

If you want add the great ads in the home page, you can get start from the index.php file of your wordpress theme. Find the statement of:

<?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post() ?>

Add this code before that statement, and it should be like this:

<?php $postcount = '1'; ?><?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post() ?>

And then find the statement of <?php endwhile; ?>, and add the post count code before, when you finish it will look like this:

<?php $postcount ++;endwhile; ?>

Now you can add the advertisement between the while and endwhile function, using same format like the below code, you can change the number to change how many post with advertisements.

If you do not like to use so much wordpress plugin, you can build the archives page yourself. Do some copy-edit to your page.php file, you can have your own archives page.

1. Copy you page.php file of your wordpress theme and rename it as archives.php. Add this code to the header of the file before <?php get_header(); ?>.

When you finish this coding, upload the archives.php file to your wordpress theme directory. At this point the archives functions have been created, and you can use it to show your archives posts.

Archives Template

Go to the dashboard, create a new page name as Archives and select the Archives as the page template. Click to see your new page after you publish it. You can see the archives page show all your wrote post by post.

The archives page can list the articles monthly and show the comment number at the end of each post. The list will update when you post a new articles, so don’t be confused when the list show the wrong comment number.

Colorful Tag Cloud

If you have installed the simple tags wordpress plugin, you can use the function <?php st_tag_cloud(); ?> to add the colorful tag cloud. But if you didn’t, we can tell you an easily way to add the colorful tag cloud without any plugin in wordpress. You can see the demo from my colorful tag cloud page.

Firstly, open the functions.php file in your theme directory, copy the subjacent code and paste it in your functions.php file.

You will find that it’s not a hard thing to design the wordpress theme after using the theme framework. I still remember I finish my first theme in two days base on the framework. Although, it isn’t an awesome theme, but I still love it very much. There’re some free framework I like, they’re prefect and easy to be used, and they are free for all.

Thematic is a clear and powerful theme. It’s perfect to be used as a clear theme or a blank theme for development, fully search engine optimized, and ready for the popular wordpress plugins.

WP Framework [view]

A blank WordPress Theme Framework that’s everything you need, and nothing you don’t.

Basis Theme [view]

Basis comes with a pre-defined set of templates. The otherwise empty style sheet provides a list of IDs und class-names which have already been used in the templates. The theme is widget-ready and introduces a number of custom functions in functions.php.

And now, it’s easy to add the delete and spam action link to the comment template, and you can clean your comments easily from the post. Firstly, you should open the functions.php file and add this code.

It’s not too difficult to you if you know a little PHP coding. There’s en easy way to show the thumbnail in your blog. And you must add some code to the functions.php file in your wordpress theme directory.

Open the functions.php file with some code editor and plaster this code between the <? phpand ?>in your functions.php file, and then save it.

This code means it can find the first photo of your posts and got it as the thumbnail, if there’s no photo in your post it will show what you set in $first_img. When you finish this coding, add this code in what you want the thumbnail show.

Your readers can get to you new web address from the old permalink with the help of 301 redirection. So it can keep your web traffic like it’s before, and never worry about losing your Faithful readers.

There’re many ways to set the 301 redirect, but I think using the wordpress plugin is the easiest one to get it done. There’re five wordpress plugins which are suitable for the 301 redirection.

1.  Redirection

Redirection is the most powerful and multifunctional one, it can redirect any access you want. But it a little hard to be used.

2. Permalinks Migration Plugin for wordpress

This is the best one for changing the permalink of wordpress blogs. It will redirect all the old permalinks to the new one post by post without any code.

3. Permalink Redirect WordPress Plugin

Permalink Redirect is a powerful wordpress plugin, it can redirect all the /feed/ to your Feedburner address. If you change the permalink structure, all access to old permalink structure will be redirected to the new one.

4. WWW-Redirect

This plugin can redirect all address from http://www.yourdomain.com/ to http://yourdomain.com/.

5. 301 Redirect Plugin for WordPress

This plugin is easy to be used. What you do just enter the date you need the redirect to occur on, and the page/site you want the specified page redirected to in the plugin setting interface.
