File Extension WPS
The file extension WPS is a Microsoft Works save file specific to certain versions of the Works Word Processor. The Microsoft Works Suite, for several versions, combined many useful office programs into an all-in-one application. Works Word Processor and Spreadsheet/Database documents ran in the same window, using a combined interface.
This combined application setup used up less disk space and a smaller amount of memory, making it a boon for those with older computers without the proper system requirements to run standalone versions of the applications that the Works Suite used.
But now maybe less and less people using the file extension WPS documents. Windows Office released many years ago and changed the documents file extension to .doc and others. In china there’s WPS Office software, and it use the wps file extension as the word documents file extension. But the .wps file have been change a lot in WPS Office software and it have no relationship with the .wps file from Works Word Processor.
The file extension WPS created by Works Word Processor is harmless but it’s not safe enough. There is a distinct possibility of them carrying an all too common threat: the macro virus. The most famous macro virus named Melissa virus, it can copy themselves thousands of times and automatically mail themselves out to everyone in your Outlook address book. This virus is very danger to your computer, so it necessary for you to scan all your WPS file extension file or transform them to another documents file extension.
